The jailed assassin of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin is suspected of threatening his wife's Jerusalem neighbor after he complained to her about a leaking sewage pipe that she had installed, police said Sunday.

Yigal Amir, who is serving a life term for murdering Rabin at a Tel Aviv peace rally on November 4, 1995, is believed to have made the threatening call to his wife's neighbor from a pay phone in his jail, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said.

The incident began after the neighbor complained to Larisa Trimbobler on Sunday morning that the sewage pipe she had installed in her apartment in Jerusalem's Ramot neighborhood was leaking at his front door.

"You've heard of me; you know what I am capable of doing," Trimbobler allegedly responded when he asked her to have it repaired.

The neighbor, who filed a complaint with police, told investigators he then received a phone call from someone identifying himself as Trimbobler's attorney, who told him that if he does not stop harassing her he would "get into trouble." Police traced the call to a pay phone at Hasharon Prison, where Amir is imprisoned, and believe he made it.

As the investigation continues, Amir's phone privileges and visitation rights have been temporarily revoked, and he faces further disciplinary action if implicated in the case, police said.

Four years ago, Amir defied prison authorities by marrying Trimbobler, a Russian immigrant divorcee, by giving his father "power of attorney" to transfer a wedding ring to his bride. Their marriage was subsequently validated by a rabbinical court.

Last year, the couple had a son after Trimbobler was allowed a conjugal visit.

Following a legal appeal filed by Amir, the child was circumcised in the presence of his father in a jail ceremony.
