Over 25 Qassam rockets were fired at the western Negev Thursday, following Wednesday's salvo in the area. Seven mortar shells were also fired landing near the border fence. A seminary student suffered shock.

The Islamic Jihad's military wing, the al-Quds Brigades, claimed responsibility for the Qassam fire.

Six Qassam rockets were fired from northern Gaza on Thursday afternoon and evening. One landed in an industrial area in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Thursday's rocket fire came amid a mass support rally held in by the National Students' Union at Sapir College.

The rally was held despite Home Front Command concerns, but taking advice to heart, the rally's organizers did move it from the college's main plaza, indoors – into one of its auditoriums.

The thirteen rockets fired on Sderot and the western Negev communities Wednesday night chipped away at the fragile truce agreed upon just this Monday.

One rocket hit a Sderot high school, damaging the premises; and another hit a building causing one of the tenants to suffer shock.

The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for Wednesday's fire, saying in came in retaliation to the IDF Bethlehem operation, in which three of its operatives and a Fatah gunman were killed.

An Islamic Jihad spokesman said Thursday that "what happened is a blow and a slap in Egypt's face in light of its efforts to reach a lull, and a show of disregard towards the Egyptian and Arab role and towards all the talks and agreements."

In an interview with the Iranian news network al-Alam, Dawud Shihab said, "The Israeli escalation, the assassination of five Palestinian fighters in the West Bank and the resumption of airstrikes in the Gaza Strip constitute an elimination of all the efforts invested in order to reach a truce in occupied Palestine."
