Strauss Group rewards the talent

Seven top executives at the Strauss Group food manufacturing corporation received stock options worth NIS 17.2 million as incentives. Strauss closed trading yesterday at NIS 50.41 per share, while the price of record to convert the options into stock is NIS 51.88, which is Strauss Group's average share price in the last month.

The rub is, the executives can only buy stock between the year 2010 to 2012. If in a year Strauss stock has risen 15%, for the sake of argument, they'll be able to convert each option into a share that they buy for NIS 51.88, but that they can then sell for NIS 60.

If the share price drops, they won't lose money - they simply won't gain any. The options are free, and it won't pay for them to convert the options into stock.

Strauss Group is giving the seven executives 1.3 million options convertible into 1.3 million shares, which would bring them a collective 1.23% of Strauss Group's stock. The company's shares sank 4% on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange yesterday.
