Soccer / Chelsea benefits from late Liverpool own-goal
By Reuters

LIVERPOOL, England - Liverpool and Chelsea drew 1-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal at Anfield last night after a stoppage-time own-goal from the home side's John Arne Riise.

Dirk Kuyt gave Liverpool the lead after 43 minutes when he fired between goalkeeper Petr Cech's legs.

Although Avram Grant's Chelsea started the better side, Liverpool gradually gained control of the match but in the fifth minute of injury time, Riise headed home an awkward cross from Salomon Kalou to leave the tie balanced for next week's second leg at Stamford Bridge.

The winner will play either Manchester United or Barcelona in the final in Moscow on May 21. Manchester United visits Barcelona in the other semifinal tonight.

Last night, Yossi Benayoun came into the game for Liverpool in the 76th minute.
