Sela upsets World No. 14 Roberdo in Key Biscayne
By Rami Hipsh and Haaretz Sports Staff

Israeli tennis player Dudi Sela upset Tommy Roberdo of Spain, ranked 14th in the world, at the Key Biscayne tournament in Florida, 7-6, 6-1. Sela's victory was the biggest achievement of his career to date.

Early in the match, Sela came back from a 2-5 deficit to win the first set. In the next round of the fifth most important tournament on the tennis circuit, Sela will face the winner of the match between Australia's Leyton Hewitt and Argentina's Jose Acasuso. The victory will advance Sela from his current 61st place in the rankings to 54th.

"I hope I manage to maintain the same form that got me here," Sela said after the match.

Peer pushes forward

On Friday, Israel's Shahar Peer defeated Nathalie Dechy in the second round at Key Biscayne, 7-6, 6-3. Peer, who is ranked 19th and needs a good showing at the tourney to remain in the top 20, struggled against Dechy in the first set.

But in the second set Peer took control and beat her French rival, ranked 77th in the world. Last year, Dechey defeated Peer in the same tournament. The Israeli needs to advance a number of rounds if she wants to hold on to her current high ranking.
