Continuous rocket barrages fired by Palestinians against Israeli towns in the western Negev cannot persist and a decision on how to act on the matter is near, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned on Sunday.

"We are very close to a decision point regarding every issue in Gaza," Olmert told ministers at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting. "The present situation cannot continue."
"Our hope is that one day the residents of the South will be able to live a tranquil life," continued the prime minister.
Yet some members of the cabinet were not satisfied with Olmert's comments, saying that words alone were not enough, and that the government must immediately convene the security cabinet.
"Ashkelon has turned into a theater of terror, and the [security] cabinet still hasn't convened," Industry, Trade, and Labor Minister Eli Yishai said during the meeting. "There are indications that Beersheba will be at risk of rocket strikes, and we need to hold a discussion about this."
"It is unacceptable that a situation like this exists and the cabinet has not convened to deal with it," he concluded.
