New Lod, Petah Tikva train stations to open tomorrow night
By Avi Bar-Eli
Tags: Economy

Only a month after opening the new Modi'in center train station, Israel Railways will inaugurate another two brand-new terminals tomorrow night: one in the Kiryat Arieh neighborhood of Petah Tikva and the other in Ganei Aviv in Lod.

The Petah Tikva stop cost NIS 61 million to build and will mainly serve workers in the Kiryat Arieh industrial area, as well as residents of the city's northern neighborhoods. The forecast is that some 900,000 passengers a year will use the new train station.

The long-term plan is for the Red Line of the Tel Aviv light-rail project to connect to this station.

The new terminal has 300 parking places and a public transport terminal, as well as a new connecting road. This is the last stop to be added on the Tel Aviv-Kfar Sava commuter line.

The new Lod station cost NIS 36 million and has 100 parking spaces. Over half-a-million passengers are expected to use the station on the Tel Aviv-Lod route every year.

Israel Railways director general Yitzhak Harel said opening the stations significantly improves the quality of life for local residents.
