Mother of MIA Goldwasser: Gov't too busy with primaries to free troops

The mother of kidnapped Israel Defense Forces soldier Ehud Goldwasser on Saturday lambasted government officials as being too preoccupied with party politics to advance efforts to free the abducted troops.

"They are busy in a 'Survivor' battle [of] internal politics and primaries, and are not occupied with freeing the abducted soldiers," said Miki Goldwasser, referring to the hit Channel 10 TV show.

Ehud Goldwasser and fellow IDF soldiers Eldad Regev and were abducted by Hezbollah guerillas in a cross border raid in 2006, which sparked the Second Lebanon War.

Miki Goldwasser expressed her anger and frustration at "the behavior toward the families during the last two years, and mainly during the last two weeks." She made the comments at a cultural event at Kfar Vitkin, near Netanya.

The kidnapped soldier's mother also said on Saturday that despite recent media reports of an upcoming deal with Hezbollah for her son's release, she has been given no new information.

In addition, Goldwasser stressed that no official has visited her, and that no one has reported any kind of new developments on the issue to her family.

In reference to the question of whether the soldiers are still alive, Goldwasser said that on this issue too she has not been given any new information. "I cannot believe any version [of events] while Red Cross representatives have not visited the soldiers, and neither have they officially reported on their condition."

Speaking to Haaretz this week, Goldwasser said that she knows for certain that both soldiers kidnapped by Hezbollah are still alive and she believes that, "Nasrallah will do everything in order to keep them alive."
