Ramle Magistrate's Court on Thursday extended the remand of Marie Pizem, mother of Rose Pizem, the four-and-a-half-year-old girl who has been missing for almost four months and may be dead, by another six days.
Before the remand hearing began, reporters asked Marie Pizem how she was feeling and she burst out crying. "I am sorry I did not take better care of her and I want my baby back," she sobbed. "I can't believe this is what he did to my baby," referring to the baby's grandfather and her life partner, Roni Ron.
Ron has admitted to accidentally killing Rose, stuffing her body in a suitcase and dumping it into the Yarkon river.
Channel 2 reported Thursday night that Ron tried to find an educational framework at two different institutions for Rose after the date that she apparently went missing.
According to the NRG internet news site, Pizem's lawyer, Revital Swid, complained before the hearing that there was no justification to extend her client's remand, because there had been no new developments with regard to her since the first remand late last month.
Swid also said she had asked the court to postpone Thursday's hearing because her client had been deeply upset by a separate court procedure the previous day regarding the placement of her two other daughters, aged two and six months, while she and Ron, the father of the two, were in jail.
Swid said Pizem had fainted after the hearing.
The lawyer also charged that police had lied to her by saying Ron was having affairs with other women in jail in order to encourage her to talk. According to reports until now, Pizem had not expressed anger at Ron or made accusations against him.
