Many people have joined the Kadima Party without knowing it, according to a report broadcast on Channel 10 on Friday night. The party is currently conducting a membership drive that is set to end on Monday, but is likely to be extended by at least a month.
The party phoned many Kadima members who said they did not know that someone had registered them to the party. Many of the people reached said they did not support the party and one even said she had never heard of Kadima.
One woman named Dorit Hasan from Tel Mond said that she received cash from a vote contractor in return for her check, which is illegal.
"I was shocked to get a letter in the mail from Kadima saying that I am a member, because I didn't join the party," Rachel Sariki told the station.
A Kadima spokesman said in response that every membership form would be checked in a strict manner and that the party views gravely any attempt to use the membership drive in an improper manner.
The Kadima faction will meet Monday to advance the process of setting a date for the primary, which is expected to take place at the beginning of September.
