The Tel Aviv District Court on Friday morning rejected the police petition against the previous day's decision to release the four suspects in the murder of Professor David Niv to house arrest.

Prior to the Rosh Hashana holiday, police asked the court to extend the remand of the suspects by another 15 days, but that request was rejected Thursday due to a lack of evidence against the four.
Judge Sarah Dotan wrote in Friday's decision that the evidence had not changed and suggested that police come to terms with the fact that the investigation had hit a dead end.
"We cannot wait forever for a breakthrough," she added.
Nevertheless, the court delayed the release to allow police to launch a Supreme Court appeal against the decision.
Niv, director of the pain clinic at Tel Aviv's Sourasky Medical Center, was shot to death on February 6, 2007 while driving home on the Aluf Sadeh Highway in Ramat Gan. His car was riddled with bullets and investigators said it looked like the work of professional hit men.
The four suspects are Sami Mughrabi, Imad Mughrabi, Salim El-Baz and Meni Ben David.
