Basketball / Upset loss brings chilly end to Blatt's work for Efes Pilsen
By Eli Shvidler

David Blatt's run with Efes Pilsen came to the end of the road yesterday, hours after his team was upset by Karsiyaka 81-77. Blatt met with the team's CEO, and the two sides agreed to a friendly departure. Blatt's scout, Danny Gutt, will also leave the Turkish club.

According to a local commentator the embarrassing loss to Karsiyaka, which was playing shorthanded, was the straw that broke the camel's back for the team management. The team is still in second place in the Turkish league, but its level of play has been not been up to par if it wants to challenge Besiktas.

"Club heads were very disappointed by the team in the second stage of the group play of the Euroleague," said the commentator. "They believe Pilsen has the ability to fight at least to advance to the playoffs. The relationship between the American and Turkish players on the team were also strained - even in the cafeteria they sit on either side of the room without even exchanging a word." Blatt reportedly took the side of the Americans repeatedly.

It didn't help matters when four of the Americans blew off the flight to Belgrade for a game against Partizan, which ended the team's chances to advance to the Euroleague playoffs.
